MOO-PING GROM SURF CLUB

CLUB HISTORY

Founded in 2018 by Uncle Ching, Moo-ping Grom Surf is a grass roots, non-profit kids surf club.

Our club name Moo-Ping (nom sot) is a Thai breakfast snack Uncle Ching buys the kids every weekend before surfing. Coconut milk, marinated bbq pork skewers, eaten with sticky rice – perfect grom fuel – yum!

Home break is Memories Beach Club

Our club supports children in the local community to learn to surf, using surfing as a pathway to ocean awareness, sustainability and environmental protection of the nature surrounding our community in  Khao Lak, Phang Nga province, Thailand. 

Our club values diversity, inclusiveness and is open to all nationalities and genders up to the age of 18 living in the Khao Lak area.

CLUB STATEMENT

CLUB CHARTER

  • Support Children in both short and longboard proficiency, from beginner to pro.

  • Team members mentored by ISA qualified coaches, judges and lifeguards.

  • Trained in accordance with ISA and Thailand Surfing federation rules and guidance and governance. 

  • Promote and support team members to surf competitions both domestically and international.

  • Value and support Children in free surfing.

  • Provide lifeguard safety training.

CLUB FINANCING

All donations and sponsorships run through our Moo-ping club bank account.

Our club finances are open to outside auditing and receipts are available on request for all transactions/donations.

The club is run as a non-profit. We raise funds through:

  • Selling Moo-Ping merchandise.

  • Club events and competitions.

  • Corporate and private sponsorships.

Funds are used for:

  • Coaching costs.

  • Travel expenses to competitions and events.

  • Equipment and training needs.

  • Creating merchandise for sale.

CLUB MEMBERS

  • NINE

    My name is Nine. I’ve been surfing since I was 8. I have represented Thailand twice in the ISA Junior and Open World Championships in El Salvador.

  • Izzy

    My name is Izzy Higgs, I am 15 years old and I have been surfing since 2019. I enjoy surfing because I love feeling connected to the ocean and the environment around me. I am very honored to have represented Thailand in multiple international competitions, including the Junior and Open ISA World Championship in El Salvador, Asian Surfing Championships in the Maldives and I am also currently competing on the WSL QS (Worlds Surfing League, Qualifying Series ).My goals are to compete in the Olympic Games representing Thailand, to compete on the WSL CT (World Surfing League, Championship Tour) and to also go study at university.

    My name is Montita Na Takua thung, nicknamed Kraten. I’m 12 years old, been surfing since 2021. I love surfing because it’s fun, being happy when the waves are good. This sport has given me happiness, friends and sportsmanship. I want to go to compete overseas.

    Hi, my name is Tinn “Makam’ Johnson. I am 14 years old and I’ve been surfing since 2021. I had the honour to surf in the Maldives representing Thailand in the Asian Surfing championship, competing against 18 Asian nations. My dream in the future is to compete in the Olympic Games representing Thailand and to compete in WSL CT (World Surfing League Championships Tour).

    My name is Ramil Aromchuen. I’m 13 years old. I started surfing 2 years ago. I love surfing because it’s fun and challenging. This sport is fun and allows me to meet some good friends. In the future, I want to go to compete in WSL.

    My name is Gwynt Jandke. I am 13 years old half German-Thai. I've been involved in water sports since I was a child because my father worked in the water sports industry. I started with wakeboard first, then when I moved to the south, I started to surf more seriously – for 2-3 years.

    My name is Thanpisit Phitak, nickname Jino. I am 14 years old. I've been surfing for over a year. I love surfing because I have more friends and have a lot of fun.

  • DENG MOO

    My name is Bantita Palasing, nicknamed Tangmo I’m 14 years old, and I've been surfing for 1 year. I like to surf very much. It's fun. I want to be a good surfer and go compete overseas one day.

    My name is Phudit Suthipetch, nicknamed Aungpao. I am 10-years old. I started surfing when I was 8-years old. At that time, it was during Covid. Uncle Ching had activity for coaches to teach local children to surf. So I was given a chance to try. Even though I couldn't swim at that time but when I tried it, I fell in love with this sport immediately. My dream is to compete at WSL level. I will try to practice and practice hard to get there.
